It's a time of transition. Not only are the seasons beginning to shift but things are changing for me on a personal level. Change is always the trickiest. There's something bittersweet in saying goodbye to what you know and embarking on the unknown.

For me right now that's my family and I, moving houses. We are saying goodbye to our rental home of the last two years and moving into our first home purchase! What makes it bittersweet is thinking of all the firsts that happened in that space. Bringing our sweet Lily home from the hospital, her first giggle, her first bath and moving onto learning to crawl and later walk. I know these memories aren't going to disappear, but we're definitely closing the page on a particular chapter of our life.

Don't get me wrong - there's something special about making a space your own by picking out the paint, flooring, bathrooms etc. I would always treat our rental homes with respect, but theres always that feeling that you're living in someone else's home. I'm so excited to make new memories in our first home and know that we're going to have some great times ahead.

In the spirit of embracing the optimism, uncertainty and stress of change, here's some thoughts on it:

  • Don't beat yourself up if your struggling with change. You will get there. And if you need help, ask for it. We don't have any grandparents or Aunties/Uncles living in Vancouver meaning we do it all. It was so nice to have Av's cousin and his wife come take Lily out on a date to Granville island so I could tackle some cleaning. Moving with a toddler is not easy and I don't think I have any solutions for this haha.
  • Take breaks and moments to spoil yourself. For example, some new sunglasses to see everything in a fresh perspective (see what I did there)
  • Look on the bright side. At least I have a home to be setting up, some are in a much more unfortunate position.
  • Take it step-by-step. I get so overwhelmed when it comes to unpacking and setting up a new home. Let alone juggling a full-time job and busy toddler. Sometimes all I see is a mountain boxes and no end in sight. Take it room-by-room and set achievable goals like 'unpack the bathroom today' etc.
