Hi. I'm Sharday.

Welcome to my site. It's here that I document all things related to style, beauty and my experiences as a mother.

Now, more than ever, we’ve been staying in and trying to flatten the curve. Like I’m sure many of you can relate to, our living room has become the centre of our lives - it’s a place to chill out while we watch a movie, somewhere to hang when reading a book, something to dance or bounce off when the mood strikes and even a great place to nap.

Since it’s been over a month since we received our sectional lounge from Sunday’s Company, I thought this would be a great chance to share how we’re finding it and how it’s fit into our lives.

Why we chose the Unwind?

The shape and size of our living room really only allows for a right-side sectional. On one wall we have a fireplace and glass windows, on the other glass windows and a sliding door, and then on the other side of the room, it opens up to the dining area and kitchen. So really, there’s only one wall we can put a couch, and given the size of the room (pretty big for Vancouver apartment standards) a sectional lounge suits it really well. We also chose it as most of the cushion pieces are fully upholstered meaning if there is a really bad stain, we can flip the cushions around. Speaking of stains and marks, I was initially a little intimidated by the idea of a light coloured couch but thought YOLO... I’m sick of the mentality that you can’t have nice things when you have kids. I like the idea that having nice things can teach your kids to respect and care for items in your home.

Why Sundays?

I first came across Sundays as I know one of the co-founders and I was excited to support the launch of a new Vancouver-based furniture business. Sundays is a direct to consumer furniture brand available only online. I love their vibe and that they’re all about creating design-driven pieces that are still casual and approachable.

White Glove Delivery

I’ve never had a ‘white glove’ delivery before, but now all I want is for large furniture to ONLY be delivered the way Sunday delivers theirs! Seriously, it was so easy (mind you this was way before social distancing and COVID-19 pandemic in Canada). The delivery team called and arranged a day/time beforehand. I was then called on the day and was told the delivery would be arriving shortly. I buzzed up the delivery guys, they brought up the sectional in two large packages, unwrapped it and assembled it exactly where I requested them to place it - and then they took the excess packaging away with them. Could it go any smoother?? Honestly, a 10/10 for delivery. Sundays ships all over Canada and the white glove delivery is complimentary for larger items like sofas and sectionals.

The colour

At first, I was a little unsure about the light fabric colour. Let’s remember, I have 2 kids (one of them an adventurous 1-year-old who seems to get his hands into everything), and we also have a black cat who sheds a fair amount of fluff. This was either going to be an amazing choice or a recipe for disaster. I am happy to report that we haven’t had any major stains or marks (*touch wood*). Because the fabric has a bit of texture to it, small bits of lint or hair don’t seem to stand out on it which is amazing. I have noticed that the high traffic areas (e.g. the chaise part) have been pilling slightly, but it’s nothing a brush or handheld fabric shaver machine couldn’t take care of. The fabric does have a little bit of static to it, but I haven’t tried any anti-static sprays to help with this as yet (adding it to the shopping list pronto).

The final verdict

Everyone in the family is absolutely loving the new lounge. It’s SO much comfier than our last lounge and I’ve noticed Lily loves to grab a book and curl up on the lounge, all on her own accord. Eitan, on the other hand, has mastered the fine art of walking across the couch cushions as fast as he can while trying not to fall to the ground (stressful moments indeed trying to spot him before he falls). My husband now gets super protective any time I sit on the couch with a glass of red wine in hand and asks me to go sit on our other armchair LOL. Fun times at the Engels!

All in all, we are so happy with this new addition to our home at it has really completed and elevated our living room.

On a final note…

From now until the 17th of April, Sundays is doing a Stay At Home Pop-Up over on Instagram. They were originally supposed to have an IRL pop-up in Yaletown but have decided to observe social distancing rules and are partnering with plenty of awesome local brands, offering a 10% discount and $50 donation to The Food Bank with each purchase. Follow along on their Instagram account for product walkthroughs, Insta LIVE sessions, giveaways and more.

Disclaimer: I was sent this sectional lounge from Sundays for the purposes of review. The fact I got it for free has not influenced the review in any way. All thoughts & opinions remain my own.
